Junior Championship finals on Saturday with Shillelagh-Coolboy and Tinahili meeting in the Junior 'D' decider at Anacura at noon
It’s interesting that both finalists emerged from the same group of the Fitzgerald Kitchens Junior ‘A’ Football Championship, both finishing in second and third behind Rathnew (Ballinacor in second and Shillelagh-Coolboy in third), and both met in the opening game of the competition, the Glenmalure side coming out on top in a relatively high-scoring contest by 4-7 to 1-13, Paidi Byrne certainly hoping they can tap into that goalscoring ability once again come Saturday afternoon.
Ballinacor were beaten only once in the group, by Rathnew on September 8 on a score of 1-14 to 0-13, whereas Shillelagh-Coolboy slipped up twice, first to their opponents on Sunday and then to Blessington by 2-13 to 3-9 in Hollywood.

A facile 1-15 to 1-4 victory for Ballinacor over St. Pat’s in the quarter-final in Newtown sent them on a collision course with Baltinglass. The first game cost them dearly, with centre-back Philip Byrne lost to injury and the game abandoned. For Baltinglass, the second game was equally as damaging, losing Tommy Cullen to injury in Blessington, before the matter was finally settled in Shillelagh last weekend.
Shilllelagh-Coolboy came through a battle with Ashford in Laragh on Sunday, October 1, 2-11 to 1-9, before coming through a tricky encounter with a solid Rathnew side, 0-17 to 1-10 in Pearse’s Park to secure their place in the final.
A very difficult game to call. Both sides have some very useful footballers and some really solid defenders.
